40 Hour Firearm Instructor

$850.00

The first 4 days of this course will be on the indoor range at Staccato Ranch, so don’t worry about the August heat.

Class Description

I designed this course to have all of the information I wish I had when I first started teaching nearly 20 years ago.  We’ll spend most of our time developing you as an instructor, not as a shooter.  You’ll learn a lot about shooting, but our emphasis will be on helping you develop your students rather than yourself.

We’ll cover:

  • Red dot specific instruction
    • Optic selection and proper mounting
    • Zeroing
    • Dot acquisition from the ready and the holster–How to ALWAYS find your dot.
  • Drill development
    • How to identify problems and create solutions.
    • Gathering data about your shooting to help you build drills.
  • The 12 drills that we’ve found to be most useful for building a solid foundation or fixing struggling shooters.
    • How to teach them
    • The elaborate back story for each drill–How did we create it?  Why is it 4 rounds instead of 5?  Why are the drill structured in the order they are?
  • A brief block on shotgun instruction
  • A tabletop on AR15 pattern rifles and setting them up appropriately for patrol use.
    • What are the most common failure points in rifles and how to fix them before they fail.
  • Low light flashlight demos and low light shooting blocks.
  • How to prioritize speed and accuracy in your training and how to develop drills to do that.

On the last day of this course the students in this instructor course will teach a pistol class to novice shooters to get real world experience running a class and teaching real students, rather than just completing a teach back.  This is the only TCOLE instructor course available that offers this opportunity for real world experience before you go back to your agency.

This course is open to both LE and civilians and the instructional material is applicable to both.  If you are a member of Staccato Ranch, contact them for a coupon code for discounted registration.

This course does satisfy all of the requirements for TCOLE 2222 and students with a PID will receive TCOLE credit for the course.

Shooters will also leave this class with the drill sheet and instructor notes for the final day’s pistol course.  You’ll have the ability to develop your own drills or immediately start training with the material provided.
