Class Description

This 16 hour class is focused entirely around an AR-15 style carbine with a Low Powered Variable Optic (LPVO).  Red dots with magnifiers and ACOG style optics are also welcome.

Each drill in this course is built around the proper use of magnification in an offensive / defensive shooting.  While designed for law enforcement officers to enhance their ability to make high risk shots at small targets, it is also suitable for the responsible civilian who wants  to better protect themselves in situations where magnification and target identification are necessary.

What this class is NOT:
This class is not a “how to hit steel a long way off with an LPVO” class.  We will focus entirely on shooting very aggressively at realistic sized (small) targets between 35-275ish yards.
This is NOT an AR15 handler’s course.  Shooters should arrive with a thorough understanding of how to safely operate their rifle.

We’ll cover:

  • Rifle Setup – We’ll discuss best practices for mounting your optic and then make sure they’re set up correctly before we start.
  • Zeroing – Best practices for getting a proper zero and a discussion on the pros and cons of zeroing at different distances.  You will leave knowing EXACTLY where your rounds will impact at varying distances.
  • Mitigating weaknesses – How much magnification is right?  We will work on finding the right magnification for varying target difficulty (More is not always better).
  • Exploiting strengths – Since we can see better with an LPVO we can probably make better hits, but only if we can build a proper shooting position.
  • Target discrimination – We may be able to hit things at greater distances, but we need to be able to hit the RIGHT thing.
  • Range estimation and wind calling – When it matters and rules to live by.

Round Count: 500 Practice / 40 Duty

Cost: $495
